Are you under 24? We'd like to hear your views on Lee Green.

If you are 24 or under the Lee Green Local Assembly would like to hear your views on Lee Green. There's an online questionnaire that will take approximately 10 minutes to complete and your views will help shape youth services and activities in Lee Green.

You'll find the survey here.

We look forward to hearing from you, and please feel free to pass this on to your friends!

Good News for Freedom Pass Holders

If you're over 60 and have a Freedom Pass I'm sure you'll be pleased to learn that the proposed all hours extension to the Pass has been approved along with a five year funding deal. I understand the all hours extension will come into effect from the 1st April 2009.

This is an extract from the official press release:

Boroughs agree 24 hour extension of Freedom PassReleased on 12 February 2009
London's boroughs have today formally extended the Freedom Pass scheme to allow older Londoners free travel on most buses, tubes and trains 24 hours a day - while guaranteeing the future of the Pass for years to come.

The extension was signed off as part of a five-year funding deal agreed with Transport for London (TfL). Under the deal, the boroughs have agreed to contribute to the cost of extending the Freedom Pass to allow older residents to use TfL services 24 hours a day.

London's boroughs run the Freedom Pass - the country's most comprehensive free travel scheme. Each year they pay Transport for London and rail operators in the capital to allow older and disabled residents to use their services free of charge.

The cost of providing the Freedom Pass on all services for the current financial year is £270 million.

Under the new agreement the overall costs for providing the Pass on TfL services - determined, in principle, by usage - will be capped for each year between 2010/11 and 2014/15.

In return for this agreement, the boroughs have agreed to help fund the 24 hour extension of the Freedom Pass for older users on TfL services.

London Councils' Chairman Councillor Merrick Cockell said:

"Today's agreement will mean that a million older Londoners will be able to enjoy access to the majority of London transport 24 hours a day. It also represents another landmark in relations between the boroughs and the Mayor.

"While this is clearly beneficial to both parties - it is older Londoners who will really reap the rewards."

Chairman of London Councils' Transport and Environment Committee Councillor Mike Fisher said:

"This deal is clearly beneficial to all concerned. The boroughs can be assured that the cost of paying for the Freedom Pass on TfL services will be capped for the next five years - and Transport for London will receive extra contributions towards the Freedom Pass extension.

"We are pleased that both parties have entered into these negotiations in good faith - and with the best interests of older and disabled Londoners at heart."

Mayor of London Boris Johnson said:

"I am delighted that London Councils has guaranteed the Freedom Pass for another five years and grateful for the way they have worked productively with me to achieve this. Extending the Freedom Pass to 24 hours will help hundreds of thousands of Londoners.

"This shows that the new approach of working together with London's boroughs is a much better way of achieving our shared goal to improve the quality of life in our city."

Notes to editors

Over one million older and disabled Londoners hold a Freedom Pass. London's boroughs have paid for and run the Freedom Pass for more than two decades, spending around £3 billion on the scheme.

I'm personally really looking forward to getting my first Freedom Pass in October, and more than a little relieved that it is guaranteed for the next five years.

Quick reminder: Local Assembly tomorrow 17th

Just a quick reminder that the Lee Green Local Assembly meets again tomorrow in the hall of the Church of the Good Shepherd in Handen Road from 7:30pm until 9:30pm.

At this meeting a new Assembly committee will be selected, and working groups may also be formed to take forward the Assembly's priorities. The outgoing committee will also be updating the Assembly on their progress, and outlining proposals for how to spend the £50,000 Mayor's Funding.

I understand that Lee Manor Society will also be displaying their finalised artwork for their Local History Board, which was funded by the 2007 round of Locality Fund, and which will be installed at Leegate.

Compulsory purchase rumour

There's been a rumour going around in the last few weeks that the house next to the old school keepers house at Northbrook, plus some back gardens in
Brightfield Road have been compulsory purchased. This was not something we were aware of, and we'd seen nothing in the business of the Council to support it, but we checked it out just in case we'd overlooked something.

I can now confirm there is absolutely no substance to this rumour at all.

Virtual life returns!

My sincere apologies to anyone who has had trouble contacting me by email in the past two weeks. Our ISP at the time, 186k, appears to have been caught up in a dispute with Tiscali which resulted in Tiscali cutting off broadband access to all 186k customers who were on Tiscali lines. No warning, no explanations, no apologies, in fact no contact! Bizarrely our email addresses continued to partially work. Spam seemed to have no trouble getting through but the stuff we wanted to read frequently didn't, and regardless where we tried from we mostly couldn't send email either. So if you've experienced problems my apologies, but please re-send your email as we now have a new ISP and a fully working email system. The only thing I would ask is that before sending you change the @mailbox.com part of my address to @googlemail.com as the old @mailbox addresses no longer work.

I would not have believed how stressful being cut off from the virtual world would be. It's every bit as stressful as moving house, especially when you have no idea what the problem is, or why it is happening, and Ofcom turned out to be no help at all in this situation. Something like normal service has however returned!

Residents vote for CPZ extensions

We've just had notification that residents have voted in favour of both the extension to the Hither Green East CPZ, and the Old Road/Bankwell CPZ.

For the Hither Green East CPZ extension proposal there were 58 questionnaires returned with 42 in favour and 16 against.

For the Old Road/Bankwell proposal there were 208 questionnaires returned with 125 in favour and 79 against. 4 respondents did not express a preference or omitted to state the road they reside in.

We have no details as yet of when the extended zones will be implemented, or when the existing Hither Green East CPZ with be surveyed for residents views on satisfaction with the CPZ.
