Manor House Library Re-opening Tuesday 5th May

LONDON BOROUGH OF LEWISHAM
Media Release: 30 April 2009
Manor House Library Re-opened

The Mayor of Lewisham will reopen Manor House Library on Tuesday 5 May 2009.

For the first time, the whole of this much loved Georgian building will be open for use by the public with lift access to all floors.

The largest proportion of the floor space is set aside as library space. The revamped library will open 7 days a week. It embraces the latest library self-service technology and virtually the entire library stock has been newly bought and well presented.

Services on offer include:

Books, DVDs and CDs for loan or hire
ICT facilities including free internet access and wii games
Wifi access for laptop users
Film screenings
Events and activities for all ages

The library will have a teen area and the high quality soft furnishings and décor throughout will make the library a comfortable place to relax or study.

A Children’s Centre (with crèche facilities) is located within The Manor House, reinforcing the building’s role as a facility for all local families. The Manor House will become the place in Lee to meet up with friends and, for those who are new to the area, the place to find out about local services and to make new acquaintances.

A range of spaces will be available for hire at competitive rates within the building, giving local artists and training providers the opportunity to be part of this exciting new venture from the very start.

To celebrate the opening special activities have been laid on for Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 May.

The opening weekend at Manor House Library will be celebrated through music, words and a strong programme of family oriented activities both inside the building and (weather permitting on Sunday) outside as well. Highlights include:

11am -11.45am: Storyteller Sandra Agard will entertain with trickster tales from around the globe.
12pm -1pm: Rarescale musicians Michael Oliva and Carla Rees demonstrate how they use technology to create music, perform pieces and improvisations using flutes, a laptop and Wii remote controls.
2.30pm - 3.15pm: Award-winning poet Chrissie Gittins launches her new collection, I’ll Dress One Night As You. Signed copies of Chrissie’s anthologies both for adults and for children will be on sale.

Manor House Library is located on Old Road, SE13 5SY.
