The next meeting of the Lee Manor Society
The next meeting of the Lee Manor Society will take place at 8.00 pm on Wednesday the 13th of February at 105 Burnt Ash Road, London SE12.
Review of Hail and Ride arrangements on the 273 bus route in the Hither Green area
Residents in Fernbrook, Manor Park and Southbrook Road will soon be consulted by TfL (Transport for London) on possible changes to the Hail and Ride sections of the 273 bus route which runs from Lewisham, Tesco – Hither Green – Lee - Grove Park – Chislehurst – Petts Wood.
From TfL's consultation letter:
This route operates on a Hail and Ride basis in Manor Park, Staplehurst Road, Fernbrook Road and Southbrook Road. Following discussions with LB Lewisham and in conjunction with the proposed introduction of a Controlled Parking Zone (CPZ), we propose to introduce fixed bus stops in these roads. Stops have been identified following a survey arranged with TfL, the bus operator and the Council. The Police were also invited to attend and will receive this consultation letter.
Details of the proposed stopping points are:
Towards Petts Wood
Manor Park, outside Alamo Car Rental building.
Manor Park, outside no: 37
Manor Park, opposite no: 70
Fernbrook Road, opposite Hither Green Station.
Fernbrook Road, outside no: 1B
Fernbrook Road, outside the rear of no: 178 (option for JC Decaux shelter)
Southbrook Road, outside no: 34
Southbrook Road, near the rear of the ‘Northbrook’ ph.
Towards Lewisham

Southbrook Road, outside no: 35 (option for shelter being investigated)
Fernbrook Road, opposite no: 68A
Fernbrook Road, outside party wall of no: 65/67
Fernbrook Road, outside Hither Green Station (option for shelter being investigated)
Manor Park, outside nos: 84/86

Subject to the outcome of this consultation we will implement fixed stops as detailed above. At this stage there are no proposals for shelters except where indicated.

Interested in joining a Manor Park User Group or Friends of Triangle Nature Reserve?
We are holding an inaugural meeting on Tuesday February 12th, from 7pm in the Parish Room of the Good Shepherd Church in Handen Road, for all those who are interested in becoming members of either a 'Manor Park User Group' or a 'Friends of the Triangle Nature Reserve', or both! User groups are the best way for local residents to interact with the Council and their service providers, and can be crucial in raising the additional funding that is often needed for improvements to local facilities. In the 2007 round of the Ward's Locality Funding we put aside start-up funds in order to establish these two groups, and we have to get them up and running and the funding allocated by the end of March 2008.
Manor Park re-opened last year after a comprehensive refurbishment but there's a lot still to do, such as:
• finding the funding for, and establishing an entrance into the park from Longhurst Road perhaps
• bringing the building in the park back into use, perhaps as a cafĂ© or teenagers den, or toddlers play group
• lobbying for a permanent park keeper
If you use Manor Park this is a perfect opportunity to influence the development of the park and make a real difference to the community.
------
One of Lee Green's best kept secrets is that there is a nature reserve, which we refer to as the "Triangle" because of its shape, hidden away between platforms 4 & 5 on Hither Green station. When I first moved into Manor Park more than twenty years ago, the reserve was managed and sign posted but over time it was abandoned and became overgrown. One of the things I've done since becoming a councillor is to put the nature reserve back on the Council's agenda and working with Nick Pond (Ecological Regeneration Manager at Lewisham) and Tertius Beneke (Environment Specialist at Network Rail) over the last two years we've installed a maintenance entrance down into the reserve, commissioned a report into the plants and animals that live there, and with the generous help of Envirowork have done some provisional tidying up, but there's a lot more to do before we can re-open the nature reserve to local residents.
Once again establishing a 'Friends of' group is absolutely crucial for raising the additional funding this project will need, as well as influencing the direction this refurbishment will take, and for ensuring that hopefully the reserve will never be abandoned again.
This is an extremely exciting opportunity to work with Lewisham and Network Rail on bringing this reserve back into use for the local community.
If you're interested in either of these projects why not come along on the 12th? Hope to see you there!

Sainsbury's Planning Application DC/07/66991/X
We've had a number of enquiries about the planning application submitted by Sainsbury's at Lee Green because it is not very clear from the confusingly worded white notice posted outside the store exactly what they have applied for; further building on the site, extended delivery hours, or both? (I should point out that Lewisham's planning department originate and issue these signs so the ambiguity of this sign is not Sainsbury's fault.) Anyway, after searching Lewisham's online planning application pages we can now confirm that this application is for a variation of condition 5 of their planning permission of February 2000 for an extension of their delivery hours.
Their original planning permission of the 30th July 1985 had 6 conditions, and condition 5 related to delivery hours:
"No deliveries shall take place between the hours of 7 pm and 7.30 am Mondays to Saturdays and not at all on Sundays"
This was subsequently amended in February 2000 to:
"No deliveries shall take place other than between the hours of 7 am and 7 pm Mondays to Saturdays and between 9.30 am and 5 pm on Sundays, and no more than one vehicle delivery shall take place to the store on Sundays"
This new application is for this condition to be amended to:
"No deliveries shall take place other than between the hours of 7 am and 10 pm Mondays to Saturdays and between 9.30am and 5pm on Sundays, and no more than three vehicle deliveries shall take place to the store on Sundays"
So what Sainsbury's are asking for here is an extra three hours delivery time each day Monday to Saturday, and for two extra deliveries on a Sunday, but with no extension to their delivery hours on a Sunday.
For further details contact the case officer: Robert Hewson on 020 8314 9495.
Or to comment on this application send an email to planning@lewisham.gov.uk including the application number, your name and address, and reason for your interest.
-------------
Note:
To view planning applications in Lee Green (or indeed anywhere in the borough) go the the planning pages on the Lewisham website and click on the "View planning applications online" link on the top right hand side of the page. The search page offers you various options but I recommend using the Advanced Search which you'll find roughly three quarters of the way down the page. Your best option is to search using the application number, for example DC/07/66991/X, which is always quoted on the yellow or white notices you see in the street, but you can also search by name and/or address, and ward.
And in case you're wondering why I've made no comment with regard to this application, it is because as Chair of one of Lewisham's planning committees, Planning Committee B, I have to remain impartial, particularly if it is likely an application will go to committee, and not pre-judge an application until, like the other members of the committee, I have read the full committee report which includes the planning officers recommendations and the comments of the objectors to the application and heard the verbal submissions from both parties at the committee meeting. My colleagues, Cllr Brian Robson, (020 8297 4283) and Cllr Sven Griesenbeck (020 8297 4826) however are not on a planning committee so are free to comment, so please address any follow up questions or comments on this or any other planning issue to them.

Northbrook Rebuild Update
The latest update we have on the Northbrook rebuild is that it is now estimated the new school will be ready for occupation in January 2010. Construction (excluding demolition) is estimated to take between 15 and 16 months, so demolition is going to take place sometime between now and July although we have no firm dates at all on when this will begin.
We'll keep you updated as more information becomes available.

Changes to route 273
Lewisham – Hither Green – Winn Road – Grove Park – Chislehurst – Petts Wood.
