Rail survey – thanks for your responses!

Your Councillors were out and about (very!) early on Wednesday 10th October, carrying out a rail survey at Hither Green Station. We were working with our colleagues in Lewisham Central Ward (who represent the other side of the tracks) to find out what local people think of services from Hither Green. We’ve been inundated with responses and my colleague Cllr Brian Robson is currently collating the results so we can take up issues with SouthEastern, Network Rail and TfL. If you have any comments on rail services, do let Brian have them. We’ll take the survey to Lee Station in due course.

Wanted – your driveway!

For some time, your Councillors have been trying to find a suitable location for a car club vehicle in Lee Green ward. Car Clubs are a system where people can book out a shared vehicle for a couple of hours at a time. It’s cheaper than car ownership, and saves much-needed road space!

We’ve got an operator interested in siting a car in our area, but Lewisham Council aren’t keen on placing cars on-street. So, we’re asking if anyone has a spare driveway they don’t use that they’d be prepared to have a car club vehicle situated on? The car club would pay you a (small!) fee for allowing them to use your drive, and you’d have a car to hire on your doorstep! If you’d be interested let us know.

Locality Fund - £10,000 to spend – we (still!) want your ideas!

Just a quick reminder that we're still after ideas for spending the £10,000 locality fund. Time is running out and we need your suggestions by midnight on 28th October

Residents choose Broomleigh for stock transfer

From the latest edition of my colleague Cllr Brian Robson's E-Focus:

Council estate residents in Lee have chosen Broomleigh Housing Association as their preferred partner for their proposed stock transfer.

Residents of Leybridge Court, Merridale, Woodville Close, Rose Way, Silk Close and the Newstead Road estate have been drawing up plans to transfer their homes from the Council to a not-for-profit housing association. The steering group of Tenants & Residents Association officers chose Broomleigh as their preferred partner from a shortlist of three associations who were interested in working with them.

Subject to approval by the Mayor, Broomleigh will draw up an ‘offer document’ in consultation with the steering group, which will be put to a ballot of tenants before any transfer takes place.

ISP problems

My apologies that posts to Leepedia haven't been that frequent but I seem to be having all kinds of problems with my ISP which sometimes make it almost impossible to upload posts. Hopefully this will sort itself out (or I'll move ISP), but normal service will be resumed as soon as possible!

Longhurst Road entrance for Manor Park?

As you'll be aware, Manor Park re-opened to the public earlier this year and one of the improvements which was mooted, but didn’t come about was the creation of an entrance to the park from Longhurst Road. This would require the construction of a bridge across the Quaggy at this point.

No funding is available at present for this, but your Councillors have been asked to gauge public opinion in the ward to see if there are strong feelings for or against such an entrance. If there is strong support for a scheme, the Council may investigate options to finance such a bridge.

What do you think? Drop us a line and give us your thoughts!

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR FUSS FESTIVE FAIR 8 DEC 07

There's a lot of behind the scenes work that needs to be done to close off the road for the annual Staplehurst Christmas Fair so if anyone can help out with any of the following chores we'd be very grateful:

From Wednesday 5th December volunteers needed every evening to put “no parking” flyers on all the cars parked by the station and in front of the shops.

Friday 7th December from 9pm onwards we need volunteers to cone off parking spaces as they become free.

Saturday 8th December, early hours of morning (12.30 am – 1 am) volunteers needed to put the barriers in place in Staplehurst and Fernbrook Road.

Saturday 8th December volunteers needed to man the barriers from 6 am until the Fair closes around 7pm.

Contact me if you can help with any of the above.
