Lee Green Junction Improvement Works Update - March 2006

Here's the latest update on the Lee Green Junction Improvement Works

Progress:

Transport for London (TfL) and 'Trees for Cities' are looking at planting some of the new street trees along the completed sections of footway over the next few weeks. This will provide an improved Street-scene and help to prevent vehicles illegally driving on the new footways. These vehicles are causing damage to the new footways as well as causing an inconvenience and danger to pedestrians. 12 trees have been planted and tree pit excavation has taken place in preparation for 7 more trees to be planted.

The diversion of mains and cables at Eltham Road and Burnt Ash Road were completed early January and since then new kerb lines have been constructed and carriageway formation laid in preparation for carriageway surfacing.

Other elements of the scheme currently in progress are:

• Completion of the widening of Eltham Road to Burnt Ash Road
• Completion of the feature paving opposite the Leegate Centre
• Installation of new pedestrian and traffic signals and pedestrian islands

The scheme will be completed by May 24th 2006. Your continued cooperation and understanding is appreciated during this stage of the works and TfL apologises for any inconvenience they are causing.

TfL will continue to provide regular updates with this type of notice on the progress of the works.

If you wish to contact TfL please email or call 0845 305 1234.

Update Thursday 9th March

Further details of why the licence has been applied for, and what it covers:

With the introduction of the new licensing act we (or Glendale on behalf
of the Council) have to either obtain a temporary entertainment licence
for each event in an individual park or, where a park may have a number
of events each year, apply to have an annual licence. This is what
Glendale have applied for at MHG (and also Blackheath). The application
is made to the Council. The application will cover music, theatre,
shows, markets etc etc. The application will try to cover all
eventualities however all events will continue to be agreed by the User
Group in advance. Essentially nothing will change apart from the park
being licensed rather than individual events.

Transport Liaison Questions 02/06

For reference here are my questions for the next Transport Liaison Committee on March 14th:

Bus Routes:
From a constituent: One issue I'm concerned about is the lack of development on the proposed 228 bus route which would run through Lee Green to Blackheath, Greenwich and North Greenwich. The route was announced a couple of years ago but was then withdrawn by TfL with no good explanation as to why. Could this be reconsidered please?

Comment: As I don't own a car I often walk to Greenwich but there are times (especially now the cinema has reopened) when the option of a bus would be very welcome so I'd really welcome an easy transport link between Lee Green and Greenwich. How about you?

Bus Stops & Shelters:
Update please on proposed fixed bus stops at Hither Green station.
Update please on installation of bus shelter at Hither Green station and associated yellow lines to allow the bus access to the kerb.
Update please on when the wording and logos for the top fixture for the newly installed information boards will be approved and the fixtures ready for installation.

Stations:
Update please on progress towards linking station CCTV systems to the borough wide CCTV system.

Other:
Request that TfL carry out a full review of the much delayed Leegate junction works in order that the project management of complicated works like this can hopefully be improved.

Save Ladywell Pool Campaign Questionnaire

The Save Ladywell Pool Campaign have launched a Public Consultation questionnaire which is being delivered to as many households as possible but is also available online.

This is your chance to air your views on the Ladywell Pool issue so please take a moment to either fill in the questionnaire if one pops through your door, or fill it in online.

Author Lindsey Davis to give a talk at Manor House Library

I spotted this in the latest Manor House Library User Group Newsletter:

Best-selling author, Lindsey Davis, will give a talk at Manor House Library, Old Road, Lee, on Thursday, 9th March. Please arrive at 6.45 pm for 7 p.m. Admission free.

If you enjoy historical thrillers and haven't already discovered Lindsey Davis' ancient Roman hero, Marcus Didius Falco, I recommend you pop in to Manor House library and check her books out!

St Mildreds Road Junction Improvements

The second of the items I've picked up from my colleague, Cllr Andrew Milton's blog:

Bit of good news. Transport for London propose to improve the junction of the A205 St Mildreds Road and Hither Green Lane. The proposal includes improved pedestrian crossing facilities, advanced cycle stop lines, improved road road markings and antiskid surfacing and removal of existing traffic signals.

Awaiting results of local consultation.

I'm still waiting to hear if the proposed pedestrian and cycle crossing in St Mildreds, near Rayford Avenue will go ahead. I'm personally for it as I know how hard it is to cross St Mildreds, but I understand there was local opposition.

Save Ladywell Pool Campaign to host Mayoral candidate hustings

The first of two items I've picked up from my colleague, Cllr Andrew Milton's blog:

The Save Ladywell Pool Campaign are to host a hustings for this Mays Mayoral candidates at the Ladywell Pool on the afternoon of 1 April.
